Manama, July 21 (BNA): The eighth edition of the Prime Minister’s Journalism Awards received more than 530 applications, said the awards’ jury chairman.
He expressed his appreciation for the great efforts of the journalists in providing content that reflects the continuous development and growth of journalism in Bahrain.
Muhannad Al Nuaimi said the judging committee followed the directives of Minister of Information Dr Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi and was keen to apply the highest technical and professional standards in line with the objectives of the Prime Minister’s Journalism Awards.
The awards aim to encourage creativity and innovation in journalism in Bahrain and motivate journalists to publish their best work and contribute to the development of the media sector.
Al Nuaimi added that the jury adopted a new assessment mechanism to award points to each submission, using 47 criteria across all categories.
He commented: “We are proud of the level of submissions we received this year. Judges assessed 533 compliant journalism pieces across 10 categories, including 40 investigative articles, 87 interviews, 60 specialist pages or supplements, 43 photographs, 164 opinion columns, 93 visual content pieces, 31 infographics, four university student projects, seven best websites or social media accounts from journalism institutions and Journalist of the Year.”
Al Nuaimi concluded by thanking everyone who contributed to the success of the awards, noting that it was the result of concerted efforts and teamwork, and expressed his hope that the next edition of the awards will see even better works.
The jury consisted of Muhanad Sulaiman Al Nuaimi as chairman, Dr Zuhair Daif, Dr Maha Al Rashid, Dr Houria Al Dairi, Ali Mansour Al Qamish, Dua’a Awad Hashim and Ghada Al Thawadi as members.
