The latest trailer for Joker: For Do teases the wild world of the highly-anticipated musical sequel to the 2019 original, including some sneak peeks at Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga singing as the Joker and Harley Quinn, respectively.
Joker: Folie à Deux will hit theaters on October 4, 2024, and will tell the story of “Arthur Fleck, who is being held in Arkham Center awaiting trial for his crimes as the Joker. While struggling with his dual identity, Arthur not only finds true love, but also the music that’s always been inside of him.”
The trailer also offers our best look yet at Joker: Folie à Deux’s long-alluded musical elements, as we see the Joker sing a bit of Frank Sinatra’s “For Once in My Life” and he and Harley sing Sinatra’s “Get Happy.”
When Joker: Folie à Deux was first reported, it was said to be a musical. Director Todd Phillips has since said that while it won’t be a full musical, music will be an “integral element,” and this trailer certainly suggests that’s the case.
In response to those worried that the sequel’s tone might change, Phillips said that Joker: Folie à Deux won’t “stray” too far from the original, and that Phoenix always had a “talent for music.”
For more, check out how Joker: Folie à Deux will be part of DC Elseworlds and take place outside of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DCU, and how the final trailer sparked some crazy fan theories about Arthur Fleck and Harley Quinn.
