With four decades of experience, Captain Sandeep Mehta is one of the leading captains in the Indian shipping industry. During his tenure, Captain Mehta has acquired immense expertise in various aspects of port management, shipping, logistics and infrastructure operations.
Capt. Mehta’s responsibilities span supply chain and international logistics, bulk and container port operations, global liner shipping and port infrastructure development and management.
Starting his career as a seaman, Captain Mehta quickly rose through the ranks to become Captain, in command of some of the largest ships in the merchant fleet at that time. After 12 years at sea, Captain Mehta decided to move offshore and took up successively senior positions in the container shipping industry.
After successfully completing a challenging stint in the highly competitive container shipping industry, Captain Mehta ventured into the then nascent Indian private ports industry and joined the Adani Group as Managing Director & CEO of Mundra Ports & SEZ. During this time, Mundra Ports rapidly grew from a small port to India’s largest private port with diversified operations including container terminals, bulk, liquid and automotive logistics.
He was also responsible for the development of Adani Group’s container terminals, private rail operations, container freight stations and inland container depots, and grain storage facilities in India.
He then became CEO of Adani Ports in Australia where, as part of the core management team, he was responsible for the delivery of the Adani Group’s integrated mining, rail and ports development projects, including new port expansions.
Capt. Mehta currently serves as President, Business Development Activities and Overseas Port Projects for Adani Ports.
Over the years, Captain Mehta has gained practical knowledge in the fields of maritime and shipping through various specialized courses.
Captain Mehta is a member of the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and the Institute of Shipmasters, London, and is also a Loss Adjuster and Surveyor.
In his spare time, Captain Mehta writes on issues pertaining to the shipping and supply chain industries. He is also a regular speaker at various business and industrial forums and is invited as a visiting lecturer by various management institutes. Captain Mehta is also passionate about mentoring the youth and supporting their skill development. He firmly believes that a skilled India will lead to a developed India.
