After a busy Friday before the trade deadline, the Baltimore Orioles are reportedly still looking to make any moves before Tuesday.
According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Orioles are looking to acquire a left-handed relief pitcher, a right-handed outfielder and a starting pitcher.
The report came after Baltimore traded outfielder Austin Hayes to the Philadelphia Phillies for right-handed pitcher Seranty Dominguez and outfielder Cristian Pache. The Orioles added a starting pitcher on Friday, acquiring Zach Eflin from the Tampa Bay Rays in exchange for three prospects.
Rosenthal said the Orioles are “not opposed” to adding a rental pitcher, as they have some security with Eflin, who is under contract through next season at $18 million. Rosenthal cited Jack Flaherty, Yusei Kikuchi, Blake Snell and Frankie Montas as possible candidates.
The addition of Pache to the outfield gives Baltimore a right-handed hitter, but he’s not a game-changer. The fifth-year player is batting .202 this season with zero home runs and 9 RBIs in 104 at-bats.
The rest of the Orioles outfield is left-handed except for switch-hitter Anthony Santander, so adding at least one right-hander before Tuesday could be beneficial for Baltimore.
If Baltimore doesn’t take any further steps before the deadline, it will be in a good position to end the season. The Orioles are 61-42 and leading the AL East, with a top-10 ERA of 3.74 and a potent offense that has hit 162 home runs this year, the most in the majors.
