The project used a Grass Valley Kayenne K-Frame switcher and EDIUS X Pro editing suite.
Grass Valley played a pivotal role in the transformation of Bahrain TV, the Kingdom of Bahrain’s leading broadcast news and entertainment network. Working with First Gulf Company (FGC), its diamond partner and systems integration leader in the region, Grass Valley overhauled Bahrain TV’s complex live IP video production environment. This modernization initiative began with the conversion of the master control suite, making Bahrain TV the first broadcast facility in the region to adopt an IP playout system.
As a trusted source of news and information across Bahrain, the network also upgraded its main live news studio with a state-of-the-art IP-enabled system from Grass Valley. The newly enhanced UHD news studio includes the latest Kayenne K-Frame switcher, EDIUS X Pro nonlinear editing solution and a Sirius 840 576×576 router with integrated multiviewer functionality.
Abdullah Al-Balushi, Undersecretary for Technology at Bahrain TV, said: “Grass Valley has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to providing us with cutting-edge IP broadcast infrastructure tailored to our changing needs. In particular, we expect their modular, scalable Grass Valley IP-based playout system to deliver tangible benefits over the coming years. We expect to see significant cost savings by eliminating hardware costs associated with traditional broadcast setups. We also expect productivity gains through newly streamlined workflow processes and operational efficiencies that minimize manual intervention and enable faster content delivery.”
The IP playout solution includes Grass Valley’s IP-enabled Masterpiece IP UHD Master Control System, a UCP 3901 Video Gateway, and a two-rack unit MV-821 IP standalone multiviewer configured for four outputs. Additionally, the setup features GV Orbit to dynamically orchestrate Bahrain TV’s IP broadcast environment.
Bahrain TV expects to enjoy further benefits, including the ability to expand its operations without significant capital investment and potential increases in advertising revenues due to improved viewer experience and increased viewer engagement.
Hany Bartella, regional sales director, Grass Valley, added: “We are thrilled to have actively contributed to this milestone achievement by implementing and launching the region’s first IP-based playout system. Bahrain TV’s adoption of IP-based live broadcasting marks a quantum leap in efficiency, scalability and flexibility, positioning the network as a technology leader in the region.”
