Global business travel spending surpasses 2019 record
Global business travel spending is expected to hit an all-time high in 2024, surpassing the current record set in 2019, before the pandemic. The Global Business Travel Association (GBTA) said in a press release on Monday (July 22) that it expects global business travel spending to grow 11.1% in 2024, reaching $1.48 trillion by the end of the year, surpassing 2019’s record $1.43 trillion. The association said the increase was due to relative stability in the global economy, continued pent-up demand and the strength of the recovery. “We are seeing an expected recovery in this sector, reflecting the resilience and…

Opinion | Robotaxis: China faces a tricky balance between embracing technology while losing traditional jobs
The growing popularity of driverless taxi services in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, and other cities in mainland China has led Chinese policymakers to question how quickly they should embrace a technology that threatens to eliminate many jobs in traditional industries. For Chinese consumers, robo-taxis are a safer, if not safer, alternative to traditional taxis driven by drivers. Fares for robo-taxis are relatively low due to reduced operating costs, and in theory, these autonomous vehicles could operate 24/7. According to the South China Morning Post, there are about 500 driverless taxis currently operating on the streets of Wuhan, making them…

What we heard about the economy, immigration and foreign policy at the RNC
Heading into any presidential election, each party has a built-in advantage with voters on different issues. That’s reflected on the campaign trail, as candidates highlight those issues in ways they hope will both galvanize their base and appeal to new voters. What better time to showcase those issues than the quadrennial nominating conventions for president and vice president? In light of last week’s Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, we decided to evaluate just how, and how much, the GOP is talking about the issues voters give them high marks on.This year, voters trust Republicans and former President Donald Trump on…

Cancellations, delays continue at CVG as airlines try to recover from global tech outage
