Bahrain’s Minister of Labour Jameel Humaidan announced his ministry’s plans to create 20,000 job opportunities across the country this year.

The initiative comes within the framework of a program aimed at creating promising employment opportunities and positioning Bahrainis as a preferred choice in the labour market.

Humaidan revealed that the national economy has managed to attract investments worth BD1.435 billion in just nine months, resulting in the creation of 5,400 jobs, including 1,800 positions with a monthly salary of more than BD1,000.

Replying to questions from Shura Council members, the minister said the National Labour Market Organization Plan for 2023-2026 approved by the Cabinet aims to create quality employment opportunities for citizens and prioritize job prospects in the labour market.

Market needs

“The plan also focuses on aligning education outcomes with market needs, strengthening partnerships with the private sector, and encouraging domestic and foreign investment in Saudi Arabia.”

“We are emphasizing the strengthening of regulations, the development of labour legislation, and the enforcement of laws that encourage diversified investment and regulate the mobility of workers in the labour market,” the minister said.

Regarding the government’s policy to give priority to Bahrainis in private sector employment, the minister affirmed that it relies on a comprehensive system of balanced plans and measures. “These plans aim to support the growth of the private sector by creating employment opportunities,” he noted. Humaidan stressed that the Kingdom’s ability to attract foreign investment plays a key role in economic activity and the creation of decent job opportunities for nationals in the private sector.

Global changes

He stressed that this requires an open Bahraini labour market that adapts to global changes and an attractive regulatory environment through the facilities it offers.

“The policy focuses on stimulating and supporting the private sector to create decent job opportunities by addressing cost and skills gaps, making Bahrainis a sought-after talent in the labor market, and leveraging the Kingdom’s capacity to attract foreign investment,” the minister said.
