Manama, April 24 (BNA): Under the patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the Bahrain General Confederation of Trade Unions held a celebration to mark International Workers’ Day.
Present at the event were Minister of Labour Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives H.E. Abdulnabi Salman, Chairman of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) H.E. Samir Abdullah Nass and Secretary General of the Bahrain Trade Union Confederation H.E. Abdul Qadir Abdul Karim Al Shehabi.
The Minister conveyed the greetings of His Majesty the King and His Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa to all Bahrain’s workers, and expressed pride in their contribution to the country’s overall development.
Humaidan said Bahrain continues to strive for development guided by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad, adding that the 25th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the throne is an opportunity to reflect on the great achievements achieved during His Majesty’s reign that have been internationally acclaimed on many fronts.
He added that these achievements were best achieved thanks to the support and follow-up of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa and his keenness to create a competitive environment to support economic growth and provide job opportunities and a decent life for his people.
The Minister praised the Royal Decree granting pardon to prisoners convicted of rioting and criminal offences to mark the King’s 25th anniversary on the throne, and the directives of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister to provide training programmes and employment opportunities for pardoned prisoners under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior.
The minister highlighted Bahrain’s efforts to boost employment for its citizens, the latest of which is a series of programs announced by the Ministry of Labor and the Labor Fund (Tamkeen). These programs aim to support 50,000 Bahrainis and are based on three main initiatives, including supporting new entrants into the labor market, creating employment opportunities for them, enhancing career development and expanding support to private institutions.
He asserted that the Kingdom’s labour policy on integrating national capacities into the private sector could not have been achieved without the cooperation of all relevant governmental and non-governmental partners.
Humaidan expressed his gratitude to his employers for their support and to all the workers who have shown hard work, competence and discipline in their work.
Meanwhile, the BCCI President lauded the efforts of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister in promoting development of the working environment, upholding the interests of workers and enhancing cooperation among the three producing parties.
Nath asserted that the BCCI is keen to develop the skills and capabilities of the Bahraini workforce in all its programmes.
Al Shehabi further expressed his gratitude to His Majesty the King for sponsoring the event, which he said demonstrates His Majesty’s recognition of the role of Bahrain’s workers. He praised His Majesty the King’s Royal Decree on the pardon of prisoners and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, as well as the Prime Minister’s directive to provide training programs and employment opportunities for prisoners.
The Minister awarded the outstanding workers selected by the Federation for their hard work and contribution to the Kingdom’s overall development process.
