Bahrainis who have advanced degrees from accredited universities and are employed may soon be eligible to receive benefits.
This scenario would unfold if the proposal put forward by a group of parliamentarians is approved by the Bahraini parliament.
The allowance will be BD20 for those with a higher degree, BD40 for those with a master’s degree and BD60 for those with a doctorate.
According to the lawmakers, the Bahraini government should reinstate education allowances for employees with advanced degrees, the amount of which would vary based on educational background and specific rules.
The proposed bill introduces a new clause stipulating that all Bahraini employees who have obtained an academic qualification from a university recognised under the law will be entitled to an allowance called an “educational qualification allowance”.
This allowance cannot be combined with other educational allowances.
Additionally, this allowance does not apply to jobs where educational qualifications are a prerequisite for employment or promotion.
The aim of the proposal by the parliamentarians is to encourage scientific research, support national talent among government sector employees, recognise their efforts through incentive measures that will encourage the improvement and development of their work, and attract ambitious talents.
