Bechtel will support the 52-year-old organization by providing training and employment opportunities to Bahraini engineering students and professionals.

Bechtel today announced a new partnership with the Bahrain Society of Engineers (BSE), a national association founded in 1972. The partnership aims to foster the development of technical and creative engineering expertise among Bahrainis across all disciplines.

Representatives from Bechtel and the Bahrain Engineers Association met and signed the memorandum of understanding.

To support the 52-year-old organization, Bechtel will provide training and employment opportunities to Bahraini engineering students and professionals. As part of this collaboration, BSE members will be able to complete joint training programs at various Bechtel facilities in the region.

“Bechtel began operations in Bahrain in 1943 and has delivered more than 300 projects for our clients during that time. We are proud to continue our partnership to train local people and provide employment opportunities in the region,” said Abdul Rahman Al Ghaban, president and Middle East regional manager for Saudi Arabia Bechtel Co. “Bahrain has a promising talent pool and we are looking to connect the right talent to our diverse regional and global projects.”

Across Bechtel’s projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, more than 50 percent of the Bahraini nationals employed are women. Several Bahrainis working at Bechtel also attended the signing ceremony and praised the company’s commitment to creating a work environment that fosters professional development.

“The Bahrain Society of Engineers pays great attention to building bridges of communication and cooperation with key engineering, industrial and scientific institutions in the Kingdom of Bahrain to enhance collaboration and training participation,” said Dr. Raeda Al Alawi, president of the Society of Engineers. “Bechtel’s support and empowerment of women demonstrates the company’s commitment to inclusion and encourages Bahraini women to participate in the engineering field.”

Bechtel’s first project in the Middle East was building an oil refinery for Bahrain Oil Company in 1943. Bechtel has since completed three projects for Aluminum Bahrain (Alba), revolutionizing aluminum production with the construction of the Line 6 smelter and the expansion of Lines 4 and 5, which began operations in 1992 and 2005, respectively. Building on a 30-year partnership, Bechtel is supporting Alba in the development of a feasibility study for Line 7 to deliver new aluminum production capacity in Bahrain.
