Paris, July 27 (BNA): The historic opening ceremony of the 33rd Summer Olympic Games, Paris 2024, took place today along the Seine. The event, which runs until August 11 in the French capital, took place in a unique setting.
The ceremony was attended by French President Emmanuel Macron, world leaders, heads of national Olympic committees, international federation officials, and famous athletes. Approximately 300,000 spectators lined the riverbank to cheer on the participating countries.
His Highness Sheikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice Chairman of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), attended the opening ceremony, along with the committee’s Secretary-General Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, several board members and heads of the participating sports federations.
The national parade took place on 85 boats that sailed six kilometers along the Seine River, showcasing Paris’ historical monuments and natural beauty. The boats ended their journey in the Trocadero district, opposite the iconic Eiffel Tower, where official protocols such as the lighting of the Olympic flame and the announcement of the opening of the Games took place.
The Bahraini delegation took part in the parade in boat number 7, with swimmers Amani Al Obaidli and Saud Ghali carrying the flag.
The Summer Olympics feature 32 Olympic sports and 10,500 athletes from 206 National Olympic Committees.
