Delta Air Lines continued to restore operations Sunday after a technical issue with an outside vendor that caused it and many other airlines to suspend operations for several hours on Friday.
Delta Air Lines contacted significantly affected customers directly via email on Sunday, acknowledging the disruptions, apologizing and issuing SkyMiles program miles or travel vouchers. The emails included guidance on submitting eligible unexpected expenses due to the disruptions for reimbursement.
While Delta worked to get crews and aircraft back into place after the disruption, staff throughout the operation were working tirelessly to care for customers at the airport, in the aircraft, and across phone and messaging channels.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused. Canceling a flight is always a last resort and is not something we take lightly. Delta takes seriously the trust you place in us to deliver the reliability and experience you expect from us. That’s why we’re working to make it right for you, starting with the steps below.
Travel Waiver Extended. Delta has extended its travel waiver for all customers booked for travel from July 19-21. The waiver allows customers to make a one-time change to their itinerary. For travel rebooked on or before July 26 in the same service cabin as originally booked, customers will be waived any fare difference. Customers are encouraged to manage their travel changes on delta.com or in the Fly Delta app.
Contacting customers about cancellation and rebooking options: Delta will notify customers of trip delays or cancellations through the Fly Delta app and text messages, and provide rebooking options that can be managed online.
Customers can monitor and manage their itineraries on Delta.com or the Fly Delta app, but these online tools are experiencing heavy traffic and are causing intermittent performance issues. Delta teams are working to stabilize these tools. Please also note that we have limited ability to respond to service messages on social media platforms such as X.
Issue SkyMiles program miles or travel vouchers based on your affected travel. Cover eligible expenses incurred due to this flight disruption and provide meal vouchers, hotel accommodations (where available) and ground transportation to affected customers. Reimbursement of eligible expenses. Customers who incurred expenses for hotels, meals and ground transportation while traveling during this flight disruption may apply for reimbursement of eligible expenses. *Right to request a refund. Customers whose travel is interrupted by a canceled or significant flight delay may cancel their trip and receive an eCredit for the portion of their trip not flown, or alternatively request a refund at delta.com/refund.
*Delta will not refund prepaid expenses such as hotel reservations, vacation experiences, lost wages, concert or other tickets at your destination.
