LTJG Samuel Consolo, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain Logistics Support Officer
MANAMA, BAHRAIN – In the dynamic realm of supporting warfighters in the 5th Fleet Area of Responsibility (AOR), NAVSUP FLC Bahrain and Priority Materiel Office (PMO) Bahrain Detachment (Detachment) demonstrate a unique partnership that has been the cornerstone for the past four years. PMO Det. Bahrain provides cradle-to-grave expediting and tracking services for all high priority requests, providing timely updates of in-transit visibility to customers and decision makers, and expedited local delivery to vessels and transfer hubs. PMO Det. Bahrain works with commercial shipping partners (e.g., FedEx and DHL) to directly support the fleet at the tactical limit by rapidly monitoring cargo arriving at vessel destinations. This seamless collaboration acts as a force multiplier in coordinating the timely delivery of critical parts support to USS/USNS Shipboard Supply Officers (SUPPOs).
This unique structure stems from a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) originally signed between PMO Headquarters (HQ) in Bremerton, Western Australia, and NAVSUP FLC Bahrain. Under this arrangement, PMO HQ will maintain three posts of Logistics Specialist (LS) personnel working within the NAVSUP FLC Bahrain space to provide rapid service to all Navy, Marine and Coast Guard units operating within the geographic region.
The integration between NAVSUP FLC Bahrain and PMO Det. Bahrain goes beyond physical proximity. PMO Det. Bahrain personnel are on standby 24/7/365 to expedite critical and high-priority materiel for the support contingent. Additionally, PMO Headquarters is committed to providing priority requirements information and training to NAVSUP FLC Bahrain personnel, ensuring seamless communication and teamwork.
Over the past two years, PMO Det. Bahrain has tracked and expedited the transportation of more than 6,000 mission-critical parts for ships and tenant commands operating in the 5th Fleet AOR, an impressive achievement that highlights the positive impact a small team of dedicated Sailors can have behind the scenes on the operational availability of engineering and weapons systems.
The partnership between NAVSUP FLC Bahrain and PMO Det. Bahrain embodies a shared commitment to excellence in logistics support. By leveraging each other’s expertise and resources, NAVSUP FLC Bahrain and the PMO have established effective lines of communication and fostered a strong, collaborative working relationship. Working together improves readiness and ensures warfighters receive the critical supplies they need, when they need them, ensuring the success of Navy maritime operations.
NAVSUP FLC Bahrain is one of eight FLCs under the jurisdiction of the Commander, Naval Supply Systems Command.
