Germany’s foreign ministry on Sunday urged its citizens to refrain from traveling to Bangladesh amid a spate of deadly civil unrest in the country.
“Travel to Bangladesh is currently not recommended,” the ministry said on its website, warning of a night-time curfew and restrictions on internet and mobile data.

“Further restrictions and a worsening situation are expected,” the ministry said.
Student protests against Bangladesh’s civil service hiring rules have escalated into the country’s worst unrest in years, leaving 155 people dead and causing widespread destruction in the capital, Dhaka.
The country’s highest court on Sunday controversially cut recruitment quotas, but that failed to quell anger among student leaders at universities.

Soldiers are patrolling cities across Bangladesh after riot police failed to restore order, while a nationwide internet shutdown since Thursday has severely restricted the flow of information to the outside world.
The U.S. State Department also warned Americans against traveling to Bangladesh on Saturday and said it would begin removing some diplomats and their families from the country.
