Bahrain’s national airline, Gulf Air, has announced plans to establish an advanced maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility at Bahrain International Airport (BIA), a development that is set to significantly strengthen the country’s aviation sector.
The new facility underlines Gulf Air’s dedication to maintaining its reputation for innovation and high standards. The planned MRO centre will align maintenance activities to the most stringent international standards and incorporate cutting-edge technologies in aircraft engineering, with a focus on automation, sustainability and reduced environmental impact. The complex will feature more than 20,000 square metres of temperature-controlled hangars, storage areas, workshops and specialised parking, all designed to ensure the highest levels of efficiency and service responsiveness for Gulf Air’s aircraft, as well as those of other airlines.
Additionally, the initiative will expand Gulf Air Group’s in-house capabilities and foster professional growth opportunities for a new generation of specialized aerospace technicians, engineers and industry professionals.
Gulf Air Group CEO Jeffrey Goh said in a statement: “This marks the start of another milestone for Bahrain’s aviation industry. This will be Gulf Air’s first dedicated MRO facility. This new facility represents a great opportunity to grow our aviation maintenance talent and capabilities, and will add a new landmark facility to Bahrain International Airport, operated by Bahrain Airports Company.”
