Indian Ambassador to Bahrain Piyush Srivastava visited the Nasser S Al Hajri Corporation (NSH) labour camp located within the Bahrain Petroleum Company (BAPCO) compound last Friday. He was accompanied by Ahmed Al Haiki, Assistant Secretary at the Bahrain Ministry of Labour and Social Development, and a delegation from the Indian Community Relief Fund (ICRF), an autonomous organisation assisted by the Indian Ambassador.

During their three-hour visit, the Indian Ambassadors were pleased with the accommodation and facilities provided by NSH, including employee welfare, health, safety and wellness management, and opportunities for management to interact with the employees. The NSH management organized a camp tour for the Ambassadors and other visitors, taking them through the entire facility spread across a vast area of 311,153 square meters that can accommodate over 8,500 workers. The spacious facility is dedicated for the construction of the new BAPCO refinery under the BAPCO Modernization Programme (BMP). During the camp tour, the Ambassadors had direct interaction with the workers and visited their rooms.

Ambassador Srivastava and the rest of the delegation received direct feedback from the workers on their health and satisfaction after which they visited the workers’ quarters, camp administration, 24-hour clinic, dedicated camp support staff facility, security area, in-house kitchen and mess hall, chapel, laundry, recreation, sports and other related facilities.

The Indian Ambassador was excited to see the cricket match being played by the workers and even participated in it himself. At the end of the visit, Ambassador Srivastava said, “I learnt that this camp houses the largest Indian community in Bahrain. I must say that it is one of the best camps I have ever visited in terms of facilities, accommodation, sports facilities, medical facilities and the way the management takes care of the workers. When I interacted with the workers, I could see that they were satisfied.” Al Haiki, Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs, said, “NSH is one of the best companies in Bahrain and a strategic partner of the Ministry of Labour when it comes to hiring Bahraini employees.”

NSH labour camps host a large number of migrant workers, primarily from across the Asian continent and beyond, with a majority from India. The Group has over 40 years of experience in executing large scale projects in the Oil & Gas and Petrochemical industries for some of the world’s largest companies, including Saudi Aramco, BAPCO, Aluminium Bahrain, SABIC, Qatar Gas, Ras Gas, Shell, ExxonMobil, Total and Dolphin Energy.
