TEHRAN – Iran’s new President Masoud Pezeshkian has called for strengthening ties with Malaysia in commercial, economic, political and technological fields, leveraging cultural and religious affinities.

Pezeshkian made the remarks during a meeting with Malaysia’s Speaker of Parliament Johari bin Abdul, who visited Tehran on Monday to attend the presidential inauguration ceremony on Tuesday afternoon.

Pezechkian called relations between Iran and Malaysia “friendly” and “fraternal,” saying, “Through the will of the high officials of our two countries and in line with our common interests, we hope to make our relations stronger, stronger and more effective in a new era.”

Among other remarks, Pezechkian called Israel’s crimes in Gaza a “concrete example of genocide” and praised Malaysia’s strong stance in support of a Palestinian state. Iran’s new president also called for strong unity among Muslim countries to stop Israel’s crimes against the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, Chairman Johari bin Abdul noted the cultural and religious similarities between Malaysia and Iran and called for developing relations in line with mutual benefits and the broader Islamic community.

Noting that Iran is a pioneer of stability and security in the West Asian region, Foreign Minister Johari bin Abdul said that given today’s sensitive situation in the region, Iran is a reliable source of support for the Islamic world and Malaysia hopes that under the rule of the new Iranian president, the Islamic Republic’s role in establishing peace and security in the region will increase significantly.

The Speaker said his country will chair the ASEAN summit in 2025 and Malaysia hopes Iran will expand exchanges with ASEAN countries in line with the interests of the entire Asian nation.

He also said ASEAN countries are interested in developing relations with Iran.
