Manama, July 21 (BNA): Speaker of the House of Representatives Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam praised the vital role played by journalism in Bahrain and its sincere efforts to enlighten public opinion and exercise freedom of opinion and expression responsibly and professionally.
He stressed the role of the media as a key partner in the inclusive development process and in highlighting the successes of the nation. He noted the support the media has received from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
The speakers’ statements came after the eighth Prime Minister’s Journalism Awards ceremony, held on Sunday under the patronage of Deputy King Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
He noted that journalism in Bahrain has made a significant contribution to protecting the nation and its achievements, and in informing its people. He said journalism serves as a true mirror of society and an honest expression of its aspirations.
Al Musallam commended the active elements within Team Bahrain for their ongoing efforts to improve the status of journalists in Bahrain through the efforts of pioneers, journalism institutions and those working in different media specialties.
He also noted that the holding of the eighth Prime Minister’s Journalism Awards coincides with the 25th anniversary of the accession to the throne of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the proclamation of Manama as the Arab Media Capital for 2024. He added that this reflects the progress made by the media in Bahrain.
Al-Musallam congratulated the award winners, as well as Anwar Abdulrahman, Editor-in-Chief of Ahbar Al-Khaleej, who received the Journalist of the Year award in recognition of his efforts and contributions to journalism throughout his career.
Al Musallam expressed his gratitude to Minister of Information Dr Ramzan bin Abdullah Al Nuaimi for his continued support for journalism in Bahrain and for his collaboration with the Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA).
He noted that providing opportunities for media and journalism students at Bahraini universities will help support young people in these fields and foster creativity and development across all journalism and media platforms.
The Speaker stressed the support given by the legislative authorities to Bahrani journalism and the Parliament’s pride and gratitude for the efforts of all journalists, writers and workers in the press and media sector, who highlight the Parliament’s work for public opinion and play a role in connecting representatives and the people in an effective and important manner.
