Captain America: Brave New World
Marvel
After the massive success of Deadpool and The Wolverine, it feels like Disney is becoming a little less confident about how successful Captain America: Brave New World, due for release in February 2025, will be. Disney has been leaking a lot of details about the film in an effort to pique people’s interest, and much of that new information was revealed when new footage was shown at the San Diego Convention Center this week.
We’ve already seen the trailer below, and as Marvel has publicly stated, the concept gives the impression of going back to the “down to earth” days of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, released 10 years ago (10 years? No way), in 2014.
Some of the new information, some of which may contain spoilers, includes the following:
President Ross, played by Harrison Ford, speaks candidly about the giant underwater Celestials that have been ignored since Eternals. It turns out that the theory is true and the Celestials are made of Adamantium. Adamantium first appeared in the MCU as the X-Men’s central metal, and since it has many combat uses beyond Wolverine’s bones and claws, it is being secured through an “arms race” glimpsed in the original trailer. Giancarlo Esposito is currently playing Sidewinder, the leader of the Serpent Society. In the comics, the Serpent Society was a roving villain organization that worked for other supervillain groups and individuals, such as Hydra and Kingpin. Here, they seem to work for the leader of the “Brave New World”. In the comics, they have snake-themed powers. There are three Sidewinders in the original. The original character was Seth Volker, who had teleportation abilities (is that snake-themed?). It’s unclear if Esposito is playing this Sidewinder or a different character — he said he’s playing an “original” character, so it may not be one of the existing three.

Brave New World Harrison Ford’s Ross is said to transform into the Red Hulk while speaking in front of the White House, but this is thought to be an accident and would be a big deal if it were revealed to the world. Tim Blake Nelson’s leader is transformed with actual make-up effects and prosthetics, not CGI. “I really wanted to convey the weight and feel of the character, the transformation of the character, and I wanted the other actors to experience that,” he told EW. Anthony Mackie has said that Captain America: Brave New World technically has nothing to do with the events of The Incredible Hulk, the first MCU film in 2008.
So, that’s a lot. Maybe too much. I’m excited about this movie, but as the first movie with a director other than Evans Capp, I’m interested to see how it turns out. Also, I wasn’t a big fan of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which acted as a sort of trailer. But we’ll see how it turns out soon.
