Recent heavy rains in Bahrain caused extensive damage to classrooms in Bahrain DoDEA schools, necessitating a temporary shift to a virtual learning environment.
“DoDEA Bahrain schools have moved to remote learning this week due to recent extreme weather in the region so school administrators can work with our military partners and the Bahrain International Schools Association to conduct a thorough assessment, planning and repairs to school facilities,” said Jessica Tackaberry, DoDEA’s Europe regional public affairs director. “We are working with our military partners and the Bahrain International Schools Association to ensure repairs are completed and a safe environment is ensured for everyone.”
Recognizing the impact on students and the importance of education, NSA Bahrain’s Sailors stepped up to assist the school during a difficult time. In the aftermath of heavy rains that caused extensive damage to the school’s infrastructure, volunteers served more than seven hours over two days, playing a vital role in relocating classrooms and equipment so the school can continue its mission of providing a quality education to military families in the area.
Colonel Zakaria Aperauchi, commander of Bahrain’s National Security Agency, praised the sailors’ efforts and stressed their dedication to their fellow crew members and their families.
“So many Sailors have answered the call to support Bahrain’s schools, many of whom do not have children in school but understand how important attending in-person classes is to the learning process,” Apeloach said. “I am incredibly proud of the NSA Bahrain team, and their hard work and tireless dedication have ensured that children can return to school as quickly as possible.”
NSA Bahrain sailors removed desks, tables, chairs and other equipment from damaged classrooms and facilitated a smooth transition for school operations. Their efforts helped to recreate a conducive learning environment for students and resume in-person classes.
“We are extremely grateful for the swift and effective assistance provided by NSA Bahrain’s Sailors,” said Kelsey Lambert, Bahrain School Liaison Officer. “Their willingness to lend a hand during this difficult time further highlights the strong partnership between the military community and our school. Their actions are a testament to the camaraderie and selfless spirit that characterizes the military community, and their impact will be felt by the students and staff of Bahrain DoDEA Schools for years to come.”
NSA Bahrain’s mission is to support U.S. and Allied maritime operations throughout the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations by ensuring the security of ships, aircraft, and tenants aboard NSA Bahrain and assigned contingents. NSA Bahrain provides efficient and effective shore services to keep the fleet operational, the warfighter operational, and our families operating with honor, courage, and commitment.
