The Northern Province Police Commissioner confirmed that a group of people had taken part in illegal protests in Diraz village and other areas.
Protesters attacked police with the intent of preventing them from carrying out their duties, hurling iron rods and stones at police, blocking roads, committing vandalism and rioting.
These individuals were responding to illegal, inflammatory phone calls that had been warned about in advance. Participants were informed that their actions were against the law, but they chose not to comply.
Following the non-compliance, measures were taken to protect public property and personal safety. One protester was injured in the clashes.
The incident and the police response to it are being investigated by the appropriate authorities in accordance with established rules and procedures, as well as the inflammatory phone calls made in relation to the incident to establish all the facts.
