A new option may have opened up. In River Market, a bakery is forced to close due to safety concerns. Another business is moving in and trying to get off to a good start. Tonight, KMBC NINE’s Russell White visits the neighborhood to find answers to the concerns. River Market is a popular spot for dining and spending time with family, but parking fees and safety concerns have led to businesses pulling out. Sweet Petites, known for its decorated cookies and cupcakes, is in an unfortunate situation for owner Lindsay Goff. Unfortunately, with all the things that have happened around here, that’s no longer the case. This is just one of many obstacles that have stood in Lindsay Goff’s way in the five years she has run the quaint shop. Now, she says, a lack of parking and safety concerns have forced her to close the shop. Someone followed me all the way to the back of the store. Well, they pushed one of my employees up against the wall. I ran out the door, leaving it open.I called security. They came down. But I still see that guy looking in my window. I’m going to put another one up. Lindsay’s last day at work is tomorrow. When she closes her other store, the one down the block opens up. I’ve had a lot of foot traffic the whole time I’ve been here and I’m excited that the people working there will just pop in and check it out. What are you doing here? Crime is not my concern. Never had any problems the whole time I’ve been here. Hopefully I won’t have any problems now, but ugh. Parking is a big issue. I’ve contacted River Market security but management is out of the office. Reporting from River Market. Jefferson White, KMBC Nine News. Sweet Pea
Popular River Market dessert shop closes over safety concerns

Sweet Petites, a popular dessert shop in River Market, is closing due to growing safety concerns and parking issues. Owner Lindsay Goff lamented the fact that the shop, which she has owned for five years, has been her livelihood. “I was walking home, and as I was leaving, I had some employees there. I turned around with food in both hands, and someone followed me all the way to the back of the store. He also cornered one of the employees against the wall. I ran outside with the door open,” Goff said. “We called security. They came down, but I was still there. The guy’s been peeking in my window ever since,” she added. Goff also expressed concern about parking in the River Market area. “When businesses have to pay for their employees’ parking and their own parking, you know, that adds up quickly and it reduces traffic, so we get less walk-in customers around here,” she explained. Sweet Petites’ last day of business will be Saturday. The store will close for good at 4 p.m. No decision has been made on what the next steps will be, but Goff promised to keep customers updated.

Sweet Petites, a popular dessert shop in River Market, is closing due to growing safety concerns and parking issues.
Owner Lindsay Goff expressed disappointment as the business she has run for five years is her livelihood.
“I was walking home and as I was coming back I saw some store employees and I had my bags in both hands and I turned around and someone chased me all the way to the back of the store and then back up one of the employees against the wall and I ran out the door leaving it open,” Goff said.
“We called security, they came down and I was still there. I’ve seen the man ever since, looking in the windows of my house,” she added.
Goff also expressed concerns about parking in the River Market area.
“When businesses have to pay for their employees’ parking and their own parking, that adds up quickly and reduces traffic, so fewer customers stop by here,” she explained.
Sweet Petites’ last day of business will be Saturday, when it will close at 4 p.m.
Goff said he was undecided about what his next steps will be but promised to keep customers updated.
