“It feels great,” Raines said last week after his team from Goodyear, Arizona, topped the Western Division and clinched a spot in the World Series.
“I never played in Little League growing up, so I’m really happy to be able to give my daughters the opportunity to go to Little League as well.”
Raines, who was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2017, was a seven-time All-Star and was part of the Yankees’ World Series winning teams in 1996 and 1998.

He was also the first base coach when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005.
When asked what he could tell the girls’ team, Rains replied, “Well, they’re young. In my experience, it’s hard to coach 12- and 13-year-olds, but they’re here to play. We haven’t lost a game since day one. Now we’re going to play some tough competition.”
His daughters will be in the second year of junior high school.

Raines played for the Expos, White Sox and Yankees during his MLB career from 1979-2002, as well as brief stints with the Athletics, Orioles and Marlins.
